VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Our booster organization supports and assists the Akins Band in being the best it can be!

We are a group of parents like yourselves, with varied skills, who support the overall band program.  We do that in many ways.  We feed, clothe and water the young eagles, through tailgating, uniform maintenance, and the Water the Eagles Program.  We protect them to keep them safe when they are away from the nest with chaperones at all off campus events.
While your students may not tell you this...they want you around!

We also do fundraising, and organize volunteers in coordination with the Band Directors. The Boosters work very closely with the teaching staff communicating both to the staff on behalf of parent concerns, and passing important program information from the band directors.  Most importantly, the Boosters are a part of the band.  We are the support backbone of the Akins Eagle band program. These positions are not only available to parents, but also grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.

How can I help?

We have many areas where we need your help.  It is not necessary for you to commit a lot of your time, but if each parent can commit to just a few hours over the course of the season, we will be able to accomplish so much more to support the overall program. Booster Membership dues are an important part of supporting the band program.  Regular members have the privilege of making motions, voting, and holding office.  Proceeds from the tiered membership drive ($25 for basic membership; $50 or $85 for premium memberships with booster swag) will be used to fund Scholarships for Akins Seniors and need-based scholarships.  Just donating money or supplies when requested and sharing fundraiser/event social media posts is a huge help to the band.

We hold a booster meeting on the second Tuesday of every month at the school. All parents are welcome to attend. We send out volunteer opportunities on the Signup Genius page. We also send out messages via the directors on Remind and through the Parent Remind group. You will also find updates on our social media and website.

Volunteer Opportunities

Chaperone

For all football games and competitions, we need 5-6 parents to ride the buses and sit in the stands with the students. Perk: You don’t have to drive yourself to the stadium or pay to get in!  If you wish to attend and sit in the stands, please pack a clear bag per stadium rules.

Pit Crew

For all football games and competitions, we need 6-8 parents to help the front ensemble percussion students (pit) move their equipment on and off the football field. You can ride the student bus or drive yourself. Perk: You don’t have to pay to get into football games and get to watch the show (both games & competitions) from the track. 

Tailgating

For all football games and competitions, we need 1-2 parents to serve the tailgating meals to the students. For games, this happens at the school before we leave. Tailgating volunteers need to be at the band hall between 4:00-4:15.  For competitions, this happens in the band staging area at the competition site.

We are currently in need of a volunteer coordinator and a sponsorship coordinator for the 2025-2026 school year.

If you are good with wrangling people and sign up genius, you would be a great volunteer coordinator. If you have lots of community contacts or like reaching out to businesses for donations, the sponsorship coordinator would be the perfect fit.
